Kicking off the start of the 2012 Weddell seal population study field season in Antarctica, the first four members of the field research team have arrived safely at McMurdo Station

Team_2012_arrives1Field team members Jesse DeVoe, Jessica Farrer, Darren Roberts, and Thierry Chambert (in photo on right) will spend the next week in numerous refresher training courses required by the U.S. Antarctic Program for working in the remote field.

Over the next couple of weeks, the team will be working on logistics and field research preparation, as well as getting ready for the pull-out of the huts to the remote sea ice camp site.  The sea ice camp will serve as the research team’s home base during the upcoming Weddell seal pupping season.
