The first Weddell seal pup of the field season has been tagged near Scott Base, Antarctica by the 2025 Field Team members working out on the ice. Field Team Leader Parker Levinson reports that the young pup in the photo below is a male, born to a 6 year-old first time mom. Scott Base is the New Zealand Antarctica station located near McMurdo Station.

Field Team members working out on the ice yesterday took a moment to gather for this group photo by Parker Levinson, below.

We look forward to introducing the entire 2025 Field Team in a future post, and learning more about how the team and the Weddell seals are adapting to the unusual sea ice conditions this season. Go Team 2025!
